NMA Ventures rebrand tied to launch of new regional startup investment fund — OneTen° Capital

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.Aug. 26, 2021Senmer — NMA Ventures is rebranding to OneTen° Capital as the group, founded in 2018, moves into Fund II. While the first fund, sourced from investments by the New Mexico Catalyst Fund as well as private investors, focused on early stage technology startups based in New Mexico, their second fund will expand to encompass a broader region, including Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and, of course, New Mexico.

The group’s current $4.2 million dollar fund has already invested into New Mexico-based new technology companies, with investments going to early startups including mPower, Mindset Integrated, and WaveFront Dynamics.

Says co-founder and General Partner Sherman McCorkle, “We know that technology-based companies provide the greatest return for both investors and founders. OneTen° Capital will provide Limited Partner investors a broad and rich array of technology-based investments with dynamic leadership that pave the way to fruitful exits for all.” Well known as a longtime advocate for economic development within New Mexico, McCorkle was also one of the elite few who imagined, implemented and deployed private sector equity funding to move technology out of the national network of federal research labs, including Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories. In addition to being the founder of Sandia Science and Technology Park Development Corporation and the Kirkland Partnership Committee, McCorkle is also the founder of Technology Ventures Corporation which led to over 200 funding events totaling over 1.3 billion dollars invested regionally.

“The OneTen° name derived from our location – the 110th meridian west line of longitude runs down the Rocky Mountains,” says Managing Partner Dorian Rader. “It speaks to our new regional approach.” The rebrand was crafted by Vienna Creative, a Rocky Mountain area branding agency.

OneTen° Capital is currently in the fundraising process to close Fund II with new investments into startups slated to begin in late 2022.

The team is guided by goals of sustained economic development in the region as well as more inclusive investments into women-led startups and founders from under-represented backgrounds and ethnicities. As  a native New Mexican and one of only four women currently working in venture capital in New Mexico, Rader says personal experiences have helped shape her team’s commitment to diverse investments. She spent many years as the Vice President of the New Mexico Angels, led the creation of tech transfer startups and investments as co-founder of New Mexico Startup Factory, helped lead Village Capital’s water tech program and is an active mentor to many startups in New Mexico and Colorado. She says, “Our region has been historically undercapitalized, with venture capital going to larger metropolitan areas. We also face similar challenges to the country in lack of inclusive investments. We aim to change that.”
