Support For Ukrainian Families Of Children With Autism — Global Autism Project

Global Autism Project to build the capacity to support the over 105,000 displaced Ukrainian families who need support and sustainable local resources.

BROOKLYN, N.Y.April 26, 2022Senmer — Presently, there are 105,000 displaced Ukrainian families of children with autism who are in need of housing and resources. There are no countries that have the ability to take in all of these families and the waitlist for resources is only growing without the demand being met. The Global Autism Project has spent the past 20 years building the capacity for autism resources across 20 countries and has the experience to leverage local support to build out and bring awareness to meet this need.

Together, in collaboration with Operation White Stork, Global Autism Project is working to assist with evacuation from Ukraine and provide 30 day emergency housing vouchers for these displaced families. Additionally, Global Autism Project will be coordinating volunteer efforts to establish autism resource centers throughout Europe, staffing these centers with displaced Ukrainian therapists and educators. This project will focus and center on the needs of the community as they are shared with the Global Autism Project team.

Beyond emergency housing and establishing autism resource centers, the Global Autism Project will be working with European resource and relief organizations to create a program which will find long-term housing and autism educational support for these families. The needs of children with autism is highly specialized and makes them intrinsically susceptible to the trauma of interrupting their foundational support. As such, creating sustainable, local, resources that are easily accessible for them is vital to meeting their needs. The demand for support is immediately urgent and support from our communities is imperative.
